חקר המוח בחוג סגול לנוירוביולוגיה באוניברסיטת חיפה הוא מיזם ייחודי, המתמקד בממשק שבין ההתנהגות למרכיביה העצביים. קבוצות המחקר במחלקה מתמחות בתחומי מחקר שונים מתחום מדעי המח ומשתמשות במערכות מודל שונות לצרכי המחקר. כל אחת מהקבוצות מתמקדת בהתנהגויות מסויימות ומתחקה אחר המנגנונים העומדים בבסיסן.
חיפוש זה מתבצע ברמות רבות, החל במנגונים מולקולריים ותאיים ועד לחקר מערכות עצביות שלמות. השיטות בהן אנו משתמשים כוללים ביולוגיה מולקולרית ותאית, הנדסה גנטית, מיקרוסקופיה, אלקטרופיזיולוגיה בחלקי מוח ובחיה השלמה, כמו גם דימות מוח פונקציונלי באדם.
